Supervisors back pushing Housing Authority meetings to City Hall and live broadcast for greater transparency

The Board of Supervisors’ committee unanimously forwarded a resolution urging the San Francisco Housing Authority Commission to hold its meetings at City Hall and broadcast them to improve accessibility and transparency.
Supervisor Christina Olague’s office presented the resolution and said Housing Authority meetings at City Hall would make it easier for residents — including seniors and limited‑English speakers — to attend and to watch on SFGovTV. Committee members and numerous public commenters representing tenant councils, advocacy groups and resident organizations urged the change. Residents recounted difficulty attending remote meetings, reported unrecorded or poorly publicized sessions, and called for accountability.
Speakers cited an SFGovTV estimate of about $35,000 annually for 24 meetings and indicated the Housing Authority was willing to cover broadcasting costs. Advocates said televising and City Hall location would help more than 25,000 public housing and Section 8 residents follow decisions affecting their housing and improve oversight.
The committee asked the Housing Authority to coordinate with City Hall management and SFGovTV to identify available space, scheduling tradeoffs and budget implications and forwarded the resolution to the full Board with a positive recommendation.
