Committee advances prevailing wage change, towing notice ordinance and juvenile grant

Prevailing wages: Anita Sanchez of the civil service commission and staff reported updated prevailing wage numbers for janitorial services effective Oct. 25, 2008. The new janitorial wage range cited in committee was $12.10 to $17.45 per hour; the committee agreed to forward the resolution with those numbers incorporated.
Towing ordinance: The committee considered an ordinance adding section 3,055.2 to the police code requiring licensed tow firms to distribute a "Know Your Rights" brochure (in multiple languages) to people whose vehicles are towed from private property and establishing a $500 administrative penalty for noncompliance. No public comment was filed on the towing item and the committee voted to send it forward with recommendation.
Juvenile accountability grant: The Mayor's Office of Community Investment sought authority to accept and expend $200,000 from the State Corrections Standards Authority for juvenile-accountability work under the juvenile accountability block grant; the committee moved the item forward to be heard by the full Board on Jan. 6 with recommendation.
All three items were forwarded with the committee—s recommendation; final action will be taken by the full Board of Supervisors.
