Rules Committee forwards charter change to split Recreation and Park appointments between mayor and supervisors

The committee voted to send forward a charter amendment that would split appointment power to the Recreation and Park Commission between the mayor and the Board of Supervisors, expand the commission and allow the appointing authority to initiate removal proceedings.

Supervisor Mercurimi presented Item 4 proposing to split appointment authority for the Recreation and Park Commission, expand the commission and provide a process for the appointing authority to initiate commissioner removal. He argued that diversifying appointment sources would foster access, transparency and neighborhood representation and cited a 1998 SPUR/Neighborhood Parks Council report recommending an expanded commission.
