Delta County approves change to planning commission representation
Summary

The Delta County Board of Commissioners adopted an amendment to its planning commission ordinance to reduce the number of county commissioners on the planning commission from two to one and to allow the open seat to be filled by a representative of the Delta County Township Association.
The change was the subject of a public hearing. Supporters said the revision would improve representation from the townships directly affected by planning and zoning decisions and reduce the tendency for commissioners to dominate local boards. A former planning commissioner and other residents urged the board to ensure that the appointed township member be selected from the geographic area affected by the commission’s decisions.
After public comment, a commissioner moved to close the hearing and later the board voted to approve the ordinance as amended; a roll-call vote was taken for the ordinance adoption.
The ordinance replaces one commissioner seat with a township association designee; further administrative steps will follow to fill the seat through the township association process.
