Elwood board approves donations, Smart Schools Bond plan and policy updates

At the November meeting the board accepted a series of community donations and approved the consent agenda, which included the Smart Schools Bond Plan.
Board member Scuirela announced gifts: $2,500 from the Elwood Athletic Club for installation of a permanent basketball hoop at the middle school; multiple SEPTA donations (totaling several thousand dollars) to support guest speakers, STEAM Night, classroom books and unified sports; and booster-club contributions to after-school clubs and programs. "On behalf of the entire school board, we thank everyone for your generous donations, which will have very positive effects on all of our students," the announcer said.
The board moved and seconded to approve the donations "in their entirety" and the motion passed 4-0. The consent agenda motion, which included approval of the Smart Schools Bond Plan (item P1), was then approved 4-0. The board also approved a second reading and adoption of three policies: 4526.1 (Internet safety), 526.1-r (Internet safety regulation), and 8635-e (Parents' bill of rights for student data privacy and security). All policy motions passed 4-0.
Votes recorded during the public session were unanimous for these agenda items; the board thanked community donors and staff for their work.
