Select Board approves mutual-aid pact, seawall design contract, vehicle sales and routine municipal items

At its Sept. 17 meeting the Wells Select Board unanimously approved a York County mutual aid agreement, authorized online auction sales of surplus vehicles, approved a quitclaim deed release, scheduled two public hearings for Oct. 1, and approved single-source seawall design work with a not-to-exceed $25,000 authorization.
The Wells Select Board on Sept. 17, 2024 approved a slate of routine municipal actions during its regular session.
The board unanimously approved a York County disaster mutual aid agreement permitting fire and emergency services to assist between municipalities when resources are overwhelmed. It also authorized the town manager to sign the agreement.
Staff requested and the board approved selling four surplus town vehicles (two public works and two police units) via GovDeals.com pursuant to town code; members noted online auctions typically reach a broader audience than local in-person sales. The board approved a quitclaim deed to release a lien on a foreclosed parcel after payment was received.
The board scheduled public hearings on Oct. 1, 2024 for updates to the general assistance ordinance (appendices A–H) and to consider a lodging-license application for the Tallwood Motor Court.
Because of storm damage from January, staff asked the board to waive the purchase policy for exigent circumstances and to authorize Civil Consultants (Jeff Oliva) as a single source for design and construction oversight of two town-owned seawalls; the board approved a notice to proceed with design oversight not to exceed $25,000.
The board accepted multiple donations for Founders Park Community Center and other town accounts, appointed Robert DeClerk as an alternate to the veterans affairs committee, and adjourned after entering executive session to review committee applicants.
