The board also approved contract awards across departments: a nearly $3 million two‑year option for playground repairs and safety surfacing; engineering design contracts for culvert replacements in Livingston and Montclair; elevator stair‑lift replacements for veterans facilities; and maintenance contracts for boilers and park equipment. The Recreation Department presented an award to Warhol Corporation for playground work not to exceed $2,991,500; the Parks division also sought equipment purchases and event services structured as multi‑year contracts.
Commissioners asked departmental staff practical questions about local hiring, grant match composition, project timelines and whether the body‑worn camera purchase would reach full compliance. County staff responded that the body‑worn camera purchase included a county match and that the Safe Streets match would be met with employee time, supplies and office space. On several engineering contracts, commissioners asked vendors to report how many employees are from Essex County; vendors said they would follow up with a more precise headcount.
