Culpeper supervisors unanimously approve resolution to accept Kroger opioid settlement

The Culpeper County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday voted to approve a resolution authorizing the county to accept the Kroger opioid settlement.

County Attorney Sheila Weimer told the board that there has been recent movement in litigation involving Kroger’s pharmacy services and that the county must adopt the resolution before an August court deadline. She described the action as part of the county’s participation in multiple opioid-related settlements underway nationally.

"We have to ask the board to pass a resolution approving the settlement with Kroger, and it needs to be done before August," Weimer said.

Board members moved and seconded the resolution as prepared by staff; the motion carried on a voice vote.

The county attorney noted a separate development involving the Purdue Pharmaceuticals bankruptcy that could affect broader settlement dynamics but said that the Kroger action is not impacted by that matter. No additional implementation details, distribution amounts, or local allocation plans were provided during the meeting.

The vote was a formal resolution; the board took no further implementation action at the meeting.
