Foundation for Springfield Public Schools reports $1.8M raised last year, managing $8.1M to support district

The foundation distributed more than $900,000 in grants across classrooms, scholarships and pass‑through donations.
Murdock said the foundation’s early fiscal‑year fundraising as of Sept. 17 stood at about $576,000 and that donors had been especially active in recent weeks. She described program work including an alumni‑connection initiative (the foundation now has more than 12,000 alumni records), a 26‑member ambassadors program, alumni tours at several high schools and efforts to revamp the district’s crowdfunding platform. The foundation plans a winter grant cycle in December and said the prior back‑to‑school grants totaled $235,000.
Board members thanked Murdock for the work, and several highlighted the foundation’s role funding teacher grants and student programs. The presentation was informational; the foundation will continue outreach and report back as requested.
