Committee greenlights interim study on repurposing spent nuclear fuel rods
Rep. Jack Lademan’s HB 1890 directs an interim study, in cooperation with Argonne National Labs and the University of Arkansas, to assess commercial feasibility of repurposing spent nuclear fuel rods for power generation; committee approved the study by voice vote.

Representative Jack Lademan presented House Bill 18-90 to create an interim study on the commercial application of technologies that could repurpose spent nuclear fuel rods to generate power. Lademan cited Argonne National Laboratory and the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville as potential research partners and said federal grants are available for such studies.
