Court issues RFQ for Coliseum circulation pumps after post-renovation problem discovered

Taylor County Commissioners on Tuesday authorized a request for qualifications (RFQ 2024‑004) to hire an engineering firm to design and deliver circulation pumps and related construction documents for the Taylor County Coliseum.
Scott Henderson said the request responds to a post‑renovation discovery that power-assist pumps were not installed as expected; the omission led to inadequate water flow during a high-use event and revealed a need to add pumps to handle peak loads. The RFQ will cover design, bidding specifications, procurement assistance and construction administration; the work is expected to be funded with federal ARPA dollars and RFQ responses are due Sept. 17.
Commissioner Williams moved to issue the RFQ and Commissioner Statler seconded; the motion passed 5-0. County staff acknowledged they are investigating whether there is a contractual or warranty-based remedy for costs already incurred and said they would pursue any appropriate compensation while proceeding with procurement to remedy the operational deficiency.
