City staff told the council they applied for and were notified of approval for a $95,000 Safe Roads Zone Fund grant to improve a pedestrian crossing on County Road 121 in the Lanigan area.
Staff said the full project is estimated at roughly $127,000 with the state grant structured on an 80/20 split, leaving an estimated city cost of about $32,000 plus any soft costs. The award is currently being processed by the state and the grant agreement will be brought to the council for formal authorization at the next meeting. Staff also said the county provided a letter of support and will assist with permitting and right‑of‑way work but the procurement and financial responsibility are primarily the city’s.
The scope discussed includes two speed‑feedback displays and LED signage to slow traffic and improve safety; the grant requires that funds be spent by June of the next year, so procurement and equipment lead times are relevant to the schedule.
