Starr County commissioners approve consent items, table Frontier permits and approve salary changes

The Starr County Commissioners Court convened Aug. 12 and completed routine business, approving minutes (with a recorded correction), the vendors list, claims, several contracts and grants, and a block of consent items. The court voted to reappoint Dr. Jessica Veil to the Board of Regents MHMR Center in Laredo and approved a resolution supporting a local border security surveillance grant for the service department.
Several permit items from Frontier (agenda items 12–18) were discussed and tabled pending further consideration; the court also tabled an item related to an unnamed street (Montago Street) because of uncertainty about the application. Items 20–23 were denied by motion and vote.
County financial officers presented departmental reports: a tax/collections summary and motor-vehicle and INS-related figures (presenter: Mister Gonzales), records-management receipts, sheriff's department housing revenue and International Bridge traffic revenue. The treasurer reported ending balances for July 2024 (the general fund balance was reported as $4,755,007.17) and confirmed that ARPA funds were not included in the stated balances.
The court moved into executive session "pursuant to section 551.074" of the Texas Government Code to discuss personnel matters. After returning to open session, the court moved and seconded to approve salaries as discussed in executive session; the motion carried. The meeting concluded with an adjournment vote.
