Wilson County issues 90-day burn ban after recent fires

Wilson County Emergency Manager Cindy Stafford recommended placing the county under a 90-day burn ban after a week of intense fire activity. Stafford told commissioners that last week alone 'we had approximately 150 acres burned and homes destroyed' and asked that the court 'be placed under a 90 day burn ban under our same previous conditions of ag exempts.'
The court voted to adopt a 90-day burn ban with agricultural exemptions and directed staff to streamline permit issuance; Stafford said the county will work with fire chiefs to inspect permitted agricultural burns and is pursuing online permit automation for easier public access.
Commissioners also thanked mutual aid partners — including the Texas Forest Service and neighboring counties — for assistance suppressing recent fires.
