Commissioners adopt revised 2021 fire-code fee schedule, approve multiple permits and subdivision conveyances

Wilson County Commissioners on Oct. 14 approved revisions to the 2021 International Fire Code fee schedule, agreed to several temporary waterline and utility permits, approved variances and accepted conveyance of roads for a subdivision.
Permitting and Development staff introduced the revised fee schedule and Chief Thompson explained the change. "This is a reduction in fees of about 25% on the overall package of a building," Chief Thompson said, adding the schedule consolidates multiple charges into a single valuation-based fee to simplify permitting. The schedule also includes an "impact fee" intended to cover the county’s costs for specialized training or equipment when an unusual hazard (for example, hazardous material storage) requires additional inspection resources.
Commissioners discussed whether the 'impact fee' might also be used to address road damage from heavy equipment associated with large developments (e.g., battery or solar projects); staff said the fee language can be adjusted and that road impacts could be considered separately if commissioners prefer.
On utility and subdivision business, the court: confirmed temporary waterline permits for Tetra Technologies and Trinity Operating were approved and listed for public record; approved trenching for Sunland Spring Water District across County Road 342; approved permit 776 for Manhart Consulting (Coastal Water Supply) to serve the Greenacre subdivision after staff described prior miscommunications about plat signatories; approved a series of other water/utility permits; approved a private-lane naming to 'Ruby Pearl Lane' (off County Road 326); approved a variance for 231 Long Creek Drive where a home encroaches into utility easements; and accepted dedication and conveyance of roads in the Cardenas Ranch subdivision following Commissioner Martin’s inspection. Each item was approved by motion and vote.
