Gonzales approves closing, abandonment and sale terms for portions of Mesquite and Hackberry streets

Following a closed session under Texas Government Code sections 551.072 (real property) and 551.074 (personnel), the Gonzales City Council returned to open session and approved actions to close and abandon portions of Mesquite and Hackberry streets to the adjoining property owner.
Councilmember Hernandez moved to approve Ordinance 2024-35, authorizing the city manager to execute the necessary real property contract for the abandonment; Councilmember Miller seconded the motion and the council approved it by voice vote.
Council also reported a consensus to accept a financial offer for the unimproved/unopened streets; the mayor said the dollar amount is in keeping with prior similar transactions. Council moved and seconded a motion to accept the offer (motion by Hernandez; second by Kreidler) and approved it by voice vote.
The council directed the city manager to execute the contract consistent with the approved terms and noted additional evaluation of the city manager will continue at next month’s meeting.
