At the meeting the council discussed a grant and engineers' estimates for flood-control work initiated under an earlier administration, noting a funding gap. Mayor (Speaker 1) said the project had a ‘‘provost office grant of 3,700,000’’ but that the bid returned at ‘‘7 point something’’ million dollars. City staff told council the bid was nearly twice the estimate and the recommendation was to reject and re-bid the work.
Councilmember Miller moved to reject Resolution 2024-126, which would reject the proposals for the bridge replacement projects; Councilmember Hernandez seconded the motion. The council approved the recommendation by voice vote.
Councilmembers and staff said they expect to reissue the solicitation in hopes of attracting more bidders and nearer-to-estimate prices; staff noted schedule timing may add some additional city cost but believed the project timetable would remain workable. No roll-call vote was recorded in the public session; the decision was made by voice vote.
