Fish Camp updates Firewise application; speakers urge clearer evacuation mapping and improved notification

Greg and I are gonna get together in about 2 weeks, and we’re gonna start on the application,” one presenter said.
The meeting also included updates from the local fire response side. Participants said Mariposa County equipment loaned to Southern California (two wildland engines and a water tender) has been returned. The assistant chief of the Mariposa County Fire Department recently retired; speakers referenced Chris Bernard as battalion chief and mentioned staffing rotations for county and CAL FIRE personnel.
Council members pressed for clearer evacuation planning. One attendee requested an evacuation map grid to help divide Fish Camp into numbered zones for quicker emergency messaging; another speaker noted the county’s limited resources for notifications but cited Everbridge (a push‑notification system) as a potential tool. The group agreed to reach out to the administrative captain and county staff to attempt to include Fish Camp in county emergency plans and to investigate how to generate usable evacuation grids.
