Committee members used the joint meeting to debate how to protect open space while meeting local housing needs. Dave Darcy, an advisory committee member from Kamas, warned that large master-planned projects could bring market-rate units that do not serve local workers: "it feels like to me, like, Eastern Summit County is very close to having yet another big development like Cedar Crest that would be bringing in 2,000 homes," he said, arguing that many new units are bought by nonlocal buyers and local workers end up commuting.
