The Warren County Board of Supervisors spent the closing portion of its Oct. 8 work session discussing recruitment of a new county administrator and the accompanying timeline.
Speaker 1 outlined options: a full recruiter-led search, a hybrid approach, or an in‑house advertising and review process. He said recruiters typically filter candidates, provide market insight and may shorten timelines. "If you decide to go with a recruiter, that recruiter is going to bring you a real schedule," Speaker 1 said, calling the draft timeline a worst-case illustration he had prepared.
Speaker 9 said she preferred using a third-party recruiter to ensure fairness and to emphasize candidates’ financial experience: "I would like to go with a recruiter...I would recommend to put financial expertise in that as well." Several members agreed that using a recruiter would create a single point of contact for candidates and provide confidence the board is being impartial.
Board members discussed the draft target dates (including an October 22 milestone for deciding whether to solicit a recruiter) and asked administration to put a formal motion to solicit a recruiter on next week’s agenda. Speaker 2 emphasized the desire to avoid a last‑minute “panic” period and to maintain timeline flexibility if the first round of candidates is unsatisfactory.
What’s next: administration will place a motion on next week’s agenda to solicit recruiter proposals; the board will vote then on whether to proceed with a recruiter or a different recruitment strategy.
