Board holds first hearing on amending county Enterprise Zone boundaries, sets second hearing for October

The board opened a public hearing on proposed changes to the Tazewell County Virginia Enterprise Zone boundaries (advertised: 24 parcels proposed for inclusion, 4 parcels proposed for removal; roughly 400 acres of non-developable hillside to be excluded). The board set a second required hearing for its October meeting.

At a public hearing Sept. 10, county staff and the board discussed a proposed amendment to the Tazewell County Virginia Enterprise Zone. Counsel explained the statutory process under the Virginia Enterprise Zone Grant Act and noted that the locality must hold two advertised public hearings before adopting an ordinance to change zone boundaries. The amendment would remove about 400 acres of non-developable hillside and add 24 parcels in the Tazewell area (parcels include properties near Market Street, the Maxwell community and land owned by the town's Economic Development Authority).
