County HR reports hires, retirements and upcoming recruitment; surveyor retirement and landfill positions noted

During the Dec. 9 Duchesne County Commission meeting the county’s human resources representative reported recent hires and upcoming staffing actions.
Judy (HR) said the county has hired a weed‑department employee, Matthew Skews, who will start on Dec. 23 and that a sign technician (Travis) began work the same day. A part‑time appraiser is due to start on Dec. 16. Judy also said two landfill employees are retiring in January and that she will need to post two landfill positions for recruitment. The county will schedule retirements and associated celebrations (a surveyor’s retirement luncheon is set for Dec. 20 in the transcript).
Judy thanked staff who helped at recent county events: “I couldn't have done it without Mindy and the road department,” she said, acknowledging cross‑department support. Commissioners asked staff to advertise vacancies and to coordinate onboarding so services are not disrupted by upcoming retirements.
Next steps: HR will post landfill vacancies and complete onboarding for imminent hires; commissioners directed staff to monitor service levels and to return with updates as recruitment proceeds.
