Commissioners approve justice‑court contract renewal, tax adjustments, abatements and board reappointments

The Duchesne County Commission unanimously approved a series of routine but consequential actions during its Dec. 9 meeting, including renewal of a contract for justice‑court legal services, assessor tax adjustments and abatements, and multiple board reappointments.

Contract renewal: Commissioners reviewed a proposed contract extension for justice‑court legal services with Daniel Urban (contract referenced in the packet). A commissioner moved to renew the contract, a second was made, and the measure passed unanimously. The chair directed that the commission sign the contract with the appropriate county officials.

Tax adjustments and abatements: The commission reviewed assessor’s documents for tax adjustments and a 2024 individual abatement report (dated Dec. 6, 2024). Motions to accept the tax adjustments and approve the abatements were moved, seconded and approved without opposition.

Appointments and reappointments: The commission approved reappointments that included Preston Marks for another term on a local board and Connie Sweatt for reappointment to the Duchesne County water conservancy board. Commissioners discussed upcoming vacancies and directed staff to advertise seats where incumbents do not indicate interest in another term.

All recorded motions during the open meeting passed by voice vote with no recorded dissents; Commissioner Miles was excused and absent from the session. The meeting minutes and signed documents will reflect the approvals and be filed with the assessor's and clerk's offices.
