County hears update on encrypted, satellite‑backed warning siren system

S4 told the board the system includes a satellite dish to pull weather-service feeds, so it can still receive activation data even when internet, cell service or power are lost. S3 reported that, as of the morning of the meeting, all schools were connected to the system and ready to go. Board members thanked the installation team and asked staff to return at a future meeting with a plan to provide weather radios to residents outside siren range (radios were discussed at about $50 apiece).
The reporting at the meeting focused on operational resilience (encrypted signals and satellite backup), verification (digital confirmation of live tests) and outreach (distribution of weather radios to areas not covered by sirens). The board did not adopt a financial appropriation for radios during this meeting; staff said they would bring quantities, pricing and a distribution plan back to the board for future consideration.
