Board attorney flags possible participation in multi-district insulin pricing litigation

The board attorney alerted the Highlands County School Board that multi-district litigation concerning alleged artificial inflation of insulin prices by manufacturers and pharmacy benefit managers may affect the district—s self-funded health plan.
"We are the district is self funded, so we would fall into that category," the attorney said, explaining staff have begun meetings with outside firms to gather information and prepare a proposal. The attorney warned that a statute-of-limitations issue could require the board to decide soon whether to join coordinated litigation and said more detailed information and recommendations will appear on the December meeting agenda.
Board members were advised that participation would involve engaging outside counsel, and staff will present options and timelines at the next meeting.
