Commission holds multiple executive sessions, tables expenses and adjourns

During the Nov. 26 meeting the Atchison County Commission recessed into executive session multiple times to discuss personal matters of non-elected personnel. Commissioners read statutory citations aloud when moving into closed session and specified participants (three commissioners, HR, county counselor and, at times, maintenance or county attorney). Motions to enter executive session were seconded and approved by voice vote.
After returning to open session, the commission voted to table approval of expenses pending the finance director’s return; payroll and certain large items were excluded from the tabling motion. The board then heard a short public-comment period and adjourned the meeting by voice vote.
The commission did not disclose the substance of the executive-session discussions in open session, consistent with the stated statutory exceptions. Multiple motions to extend or re-enter executive session were made and recorded during the meeting.
