Board adopts curriculum framework, MTSS plan and several policy updates including educational equity
Summary
The board approved updates to multiple policies (homebound instruction, admission/entry age, educational equity), adopted a K–12 social studies framework and approved AP textbook adoptions; it also approved a three-year MTSS plan and the PowerSchool Perform platform for tracking professional development.
At the June 10 meeting the Kennett board approved a batch of policy and curriculum actions intended to align instruction and student supports.
Policy changes approved included policy 117 (homebound instruction) which shortens a prior 15-day hold to 10 days to speed access to services, policy 201 which revises admission and entry-age language to better match Pennsylvania statute, and a new policy 832 on educational equity required for the district’s consolidated grant audit. Miss Marcella and policy committee members described the equity policy as a “living document” that will be refined and used to guide professional development and an annual audit.
Curriculum actions included board approval of a K–12 social studies framework developed over two years to balance civics, economics, geography and history across grades K–12; the framework will be implemented with committee oversight. The board also approved several AP textbook adoptions listed in the public content; the AP American history text approved is Alan Brinkley’s American History: Connecting with the Past, 16th edition, with the rubric and materials posted in board documents.
Administration presented and the board approved the Multi-Year Action Plan (MTSS) for social, emotional and behavioral skills development for the next three school years; the plan outlines action steps, monitoring and stakeholder engagement, and the administration said the curriculum committee will receive regular progress updates. The board also approved the PowerSchool Perform professional-development tracking module to replace manual tracking after July 1.
Board members discussed transparency around textbook vetting and the timetable for sharing student-achievement results at a special curriculum meeting on July 8.
