Utility board approves rate adjustments for select classes; tourism board begins event-tracking

Councilmember Cardwell reported on recent Utility Board and tourism-board activity. The Utility Board reviewed a Jackson Thornton study and approved rate-class increases affecting large industrial and bulk-sale customers to recapture the cost of service; the changes were approved to take effect Jan. 1 for a two-year period.
Cardwell also said the board authorized surveying work and approved a contract with PREMET for water-related work; a short-term gas-supply agreement with BP was also approved. The water-rate changes were described as applying to selective classes (large industrial, Telco Village bulk sales and similar categories), not the residential class.
Separately, the tourism board is now using an event-tracking platform that maps where visitors came from and where they went after attending events. Cardwell cited preliminary figures: about 4,200 attendees at Riverfest this year and more than 14,000 at the Pickle Festival, information the board will use to target advertising and event planning.
