Shannon Singleton sworn in as Multnomah County commissioner, vows to 'get some stuff done'

Shannon Singleton was sworn in as Multnomah County Commissioner for District 2 during the Board's meeting, taking an oath to support the U.S. Constitution, the county Home Rule Charter and to serve the district "to the best of my ability." Jenny Mackler, Multnomah County attorney, administered the oath.

Pearlia Bell, who identified herself as a longtime acquaintance and former colleague, offered a personal endorsement during the ceremony. "Shannon is a visionary. She's a leader," Bell said, urging the room to acknowledge the support of Singleton's husband and volunteers who helped on her campaign.

In brief remarks after the oath, Commissioner Singleton described her background in housing and human services, including work as a housing advisor and director of Equity and Racial Justice in the governor's office. She thanked campaign volunteers and said she was eager to begin the work of the Board. "Now, let's get some stuff done," Singleton said.

The Board marked the event as the first swearing-in of the season, noting that three new members will be joining the Board and that a larger, off-site swearing-in will take place later in the month. The meeting then moved on to its scheduled briefings.
