The Multnomah County Board of Commissioners on Thursday adopted a proclamation recognizing Veterans Day on Nov. 11, 2024, and heard from members of the county—s Veterans Task Force and VA partners about services to veterans.
Commissioner Myron introduced the proclamation, described the Task Force—s history and highlighted Operation Greenlight for Veterans, a National Association of Counties initiative to illuminate public buildings in green as a symbol of support. Panelists described county programs: Daina Spar (Veterans Homeless Outreach Coordinator) and Christine O—Brien (Portland VA suicide-prevention community engagement) praised Task Force collaboration; Sheila Baldwin, Multnomah County program supervisor for veteran services, reviewed the veteran-directed care program and said the county secured more than $6,500,000 in retroactive benefits in fiscal year 2024 and that veteran-directed-care revenue was about $7,700,000 in FY24.
Commissioners offered tributes to veterans and to staff who work on veterans services. The Board approved the proclamation by roll call. Commissioner Myron invited the public to the Veterans Day parade Monday at 10 a.m. in North Portland and noted that the Morrison Bridge would be lit green Nov. 9–11 as part of Operation Greenlight.
"Multnomah County is committed to providing the support and care that all veterans have earned," the proclamation states; it also notes county services across departments and the Task Force—s role in convening partners.
