Superintendent Fletcher opened the meeting by recognizing dozens of AP Scholars and graduate honorees, noting that several awardees were already graduated and in college. He also congratulated Brevard High School’s cross-country team for winning the NCHSAA 2A championship for the second straight year and praised high weighted (3.93) and unweighted GPAs.
Fletcher highlighted that 102 students were inducted into the National Technical Honor Society and reported Transylvania CTE students earned 1,754 credentials in 2023–24 with an attainment rate of 83.5%, placing the district second in the state for that measure. The district’s school nutrition program received the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction’s Noncongregate Innovation Award after serving over 26,000 meals last summer; staff presented the certificate and explained the program used home-delivery mobile routes and two pickup sites.
Fletcher also previewed the district strategic plan format the administration recommends: a one-page cover that lists mission, vision, priorities, goals and measures, and separate detailed pages for each goal showing action steps and metrics. Board members asked that the plan include leading indicator metrics that can be reviewed quarterly so the district can adjust mid-year rather than waiting for EOG/EOC results. Fletcher said principals and directors used focus groups and surveys to draft goals and that staff will track interim metrics and share quarterly reviews with the board; the formal plan is expected to be ready for board review by February.
