Baker County TDC hears fairgrounds grant progress and strategic-plan consultant update

TDC staff updated the Tourist Development Council that the county's application for an agricultural fairgrounds grant has advanced through an initial review and was forwarded to the president of the senate, the speaker of the house and the governor's budget office for consideration during the 2025 legislative session.
At the Dec. 4 meeting, staff said the application "made it through the first level" and that the department's evaluation had advanced the submission for legislative consideration. The update attached the application progress to the next steps in the legislative cycle; staff encouraged members to contact officials who could support the project.
Separately, the consultant for the county's strategic plan has completed initial meetings with staff; the consultant described a community-engagement process that includes a "secret shopper" experience and public workshops. The consultant's contract is under legal review; if legal clears the contract and the board of county commissioners approves in December, the consultant will present to the TDC at an advertised meeting in January. The board discussed scheduling a placeholder meeting on Jan. 8 at 3:30 p.m. to accommodate the consultant presentation if needed.
No formal vote on the grant or on the consultant contract occurred at the meeting; the items were status updates and scheduling discussion.
