County readies staff for weekend construction, approves training contract and reports early-voting totals

Bill Pelletier, identifying himself as "Bill Pelletier, TPG Security for the St. Joseph County City Building," told the board the building's boilers will be replaced Saturday, Nov. 2, requiring cranes that will block part of Jefferson Street. He said alternate parking for election staff has been arranged with city and county lots and that extra staff will help manage the expected crowd. Pelletier asked that signage be placed to direct voters to the Lafayette Street entrance.
Speaker 5 thanked Pelletier for crowd-management support. Speaker 3 suggested creating a sign that reads "Elections — Early voting open" near road-block signage so the public is aware voting continues despite closures.
On training, Speaker 5 outlined a revised program that shortens the video to 32 minutes and emphasizes hands-on experience with poll pads and Freedom Vote machines. Speaker 3 moved to approve the revised vote-center worker contract; Speaker 5 seconded and the board carried the motion by voice vote.
Speaker 9 reported early-voting totals through the previous day: County‑City Building 8,625; Mishawaka 6,801; Center Township 1,492 — 16,918 total so far — and said equipment downloads are complete with a final sync and an equipment delivery scheduled for Oct. 30.
Next steps: staff will finalize signage and parking notices for the Nov. 2 work, implement the revised training program and proceed with scheduled equipment delivery and synchronization.
