Commissioners approve standardized fire apparatus purchase plan

Public safety director Brian Phillips asked the board to approve a capital apparatus purchase plan developed and agreed by the Fire Commission on Sept. 12, 2024. He said the plan standardizes down payments and recommended contract terms for future fire apparatus purchases and that funding for capital purchases would come from county funds 216 and 258 after Fire Commission recommendation and board approval.
A commissioner asked that the Fire Commission be advised that operational cost growth should not exceed the rate of inflation so that capital reserves are not eroded; Phillips said staff would communicate that guidance to the Fire Commission. The board voted to approve the plan by voice vote.
Next steps: The Fire Commission is authorized to implement the standardized purchase plan for future apparatus acquisitions, subject to the board’s normal approval process.
