The board approved revised minimum qualifications for the assistant superintendent of human-resources — a master's degree or related field plus SHRM certification or equivalent and five years of experience — over Vice Chair Joyce's objection that the floor should require an HR master's or law degree and stronger credentials.

The Duval County School Board on Sept. 3 voted 6–1 to adopt revised minimum qualifications for the assistant superintendent (human-resource services) position. The superintendent's recommended language requires a master's degree from an accredited college or university in human-resource management or a related field, or SHRM certification if the candidate lacks a master's in HR, and five years of successful experience in public-school administration or a related HR field.
