District 1 lieutenant reports homicide cleared by arrest, summarizes proactive patrols

A lieutenant for District 1 briefed the Midtown Redevelopment Board on patrol activity from Oct. 14 through Nov. 11, saying officers handled 2,940 calls for service and filed 683 written reports.
The lieutenant reported 94 felony arrests, 106 misdemeanor arrests, 444 traffic stops and 439 citations during the period. “We unfortunately had a homicide. The homicide was in fact cleared by arrest,” the lieutenant said, adding the department made proactive deployments at events and in identified hot‑spot locations.
He described a targeted plan that separates problem locations by three dispatch criteria — weapons complaints, person‑shot incidents and aggravated felonies — and said those sites receive sustained, proactive patrols to reduce retaliatory violence. The district also deployed a reserve division holiday detail and a mobile command post in high‑traffic commercial areas to curb property crimes.
Board members raised a neighborhood complaint about a convenience store on 879 MMB that was alleged to have ongoing drug sales and disorder. The lieutenant said he would pass the information to command staff and start a platoon‑level patrol for the location that night.
The lieutenant said additional data — including whether suspects were local residents or from other areas — was not immediately available but could be compiled for a future meeting.
