Council approves several routine items including street completion, professional services and code updates

The Oskaloosa City Council on Monday acted on several routine but consequential items: the consent agenda was approved, the city accepted substantial completion of the North 6th Street reconstruction and related storm-sewer work and approved associated pay applications, and the council approved an amendment to a design task order covering remaining funds and design phases.

Staff said the North 6th Street work included storm-sewer main reconstruction and pavement patching; a pay application in the packet requested $40,945 for completed work. On a separate item staff described an amendment involving approximately $990,000 to address unspent funds for a design phase and recommended approval of the task order amendment; the council approved that amendment after brief discussion.

The council also completed a second reading of proposed updates to Chapter 13.08 of the municipal code to modernize sewage-system definitions and fee references, incorporating statewide design specifications. Separately, council approved a professional services contract with an engineering firm for surveying and design related to a natatorium (pool) project, including a 3-D survey before demolition, during, and after construction.

Councilmembers briefly discussed lawn/landscape restoration and other closeout items on the street project; there were no extended public comments on these consent or routine items and all were approved by roll call.

Next steps: staff will process the pay application and execute task order amendments; engineering work for the natatorium will proceed under the approved professional-services agreement.
