Kathy Mills, the county’s district attorney, and Matt Manning visited the Aug. 12 budget workshop to press for the creation of a dedicated violent/high‑crimes prosecutor. They presented case counts showing that the number of charged murder and capital‑murder cases brought to the office climbed from 13 in 2015 to 51 in 2018, with 30 of those cases still pending from last year.
