House reassigns two bills to different committees

During Friday’s session, members moved to reassign two bills among House committees and the motions carried by voice vote. The Member from Waterbury moved to relieve the Committee on General and Housing of House Bill 649 (an act relating to the Vermont Truth and Reconciliation Commission) and to commit it to the Committee on Government Operations and Military Affairs; the motion was approved. Later, the Member from Saint Albans City moved to relieve the Committee on Government Operations and Military Affairs of House Bill 105 (an act relating to the Community Resilience and Disaster Mitigation Fund) and to commit it to the House Committee on Ways and Means; that motion also passed by voice vote.

Both motions were handled as procedural committee reassignments on the floor; no debate or amendment to the bills’ texts was recorded during these motions. The House also recorded the introduction by number only of 32 House bills earlier in the session and suspended the rules to permit number‑only first readings.

The reassignments change which standing committees will take up the bills for hearings and further consideration; no committee votes on the bills themselves were recorded in today’s session.
