Mayor Gary W. Waters read a proclamation declaring January 2025 Human Trafficking Awareness and Prevention Month in Pelham and said the city supports partnerships to prevent trafficking and assist survivors.
Carrie Hill, a Pelham resident and co-founder of the Child Trafficking Solutions Project, told the council the group works with the Junior League of Birmingham to secure city proclamations and offers training for churches, businesses and schools. Hill said she hopes to coordinate future training with the mayor's office and school staff so educators can spot warning signs and connect students with resources.
Council accepted the proclamation and the participants took a photograph at the dais.
