The Pelham City Council voted unanimously on Jan. 6 to appoint Jonathan Seale as city clerk and treasurer, with an effective date of Feb. 3, 2025 and a term through Nov. 3, 2025.
Mayor Gary W. Waters described the recruitment, saying the city conducted a formal search, used outside subject-matter experts on the interview panel (including Mark Fry, city clerk for Alabaster), and identified Jonathan Seale from among multiple finalists. The mayor said Seale had worked previously for Pelham as an intern and had served as city clerk in Harpersville and Clinton.
The council called for a motion, and, after a second, conducted a roll call vote in which Council President Mercer, Council members Quorum, Leverett, Walsh and Harris all voted yes. Council members expressed appreciation for outgoing clerk Tom Seale and welcomed Jonathan Seale; Jonathan Seale thanked the council and recalled being introduced to municipal work through Pelham internships.
The council’s resolution (2025-01-0605) appointing Seale was approved by unanimous vote during the meeting.
