The Pacific Tourism Commission on Wednesday approved a package of outdoor marketing materials aimed at directing travelers into downtown and promoting local events.
Commission staff presented two billboard designs for placement on Thornton Hogan Road and recommended a set of light-post banners to be installed along Osage and West Andes. "The first 1 says Explore Pacific, and then the other 1 is the Red Cedar Jensen Point," Speaker 4 said while describing the options. Commissioners discussed whether to use different artwork facing each direction or to duplicate one design on both sides; many favored the Explore Pacific creative because it includes the website address.
After debate over legibility, color and rotation of banner designs, Speaker 2 moved "I make a motion to approve banners 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6." Speaker 1 seconded the motion and the commission recorded ayes; the motion passed. Commissioners also asked staff to order 42 banners so that a banner appears on every other pole (84 posts in total), and to seek required approvals from the local school district and the Missouri Department of Transportation before installation.
Speaker 4 told the group the commission aims to order banners by the end of June and said there is a small per-design setup charge; staff is re-quotes vendors now and expects the final cost per banner and total procurement estimate to be available as orders are finalized.
The commission also discussed a separate, smaller program of veteran-specific banners for Saint Louis Street, to be funded by sponsors who may pay to have a veteran’s name and photo displayed. Speaker 4 said organizers will use fallback artwork if sponsor-supplied photos are insufficiently high-resolution.
Next steps: staff will finalize vendor quotes, file any required applications with the school district and MoDOT, and proceed with ordering per the design approvals. Installation timing will depend on agency approvals and production lead times.
