Auburn students present art–science projects; special-education aide recognized

At the opening of the Dec. 18 Auburn School Committee meeting, the committee recognized Megan Dupuy, a special-education aide at Bryn Mawr nominated by a family for exceptional support to their child. Committee members thanked Dupuy for her work supporting social skills, communication and day-to-day learning.
Later in the meeting, fifth-grade students and art teacher Gayla Biaksha from Swanson Road School presented cross-curricular projects that integrated art and science. Students described researching planets, illustrating the solar system and building a hands-on watershed model to demonstrate the water cycle and runoff. Teachers described the exercise as universal-design learning that used a variety of media and materials so students could demonstrate understanding in different ways.
Committee members praised the student presentations, asked about materials and applauded the integration of art and science as a strategy to deepen understanding.
