Putnam County issues proclamations and posts public service notices

At the start of the Oct. 1 meeting, the Putnam County Legislature issued three community proclamations and shared a public-service announcement.

Legislator Crowley introduced a proclamation recognizing Oct. 24 as Domestic Violence Awareness Month; a representative of the Putnam Northern Westchester Women's Resource Center accepted and cited that the center answered 1,095 hotline calls in 2023 and that a special victims unit has provided safe space for more than 50 adults since 2022.

Legislator Elmer presented a proclamation for National Fire Prevention Week (Oct. 6–12), urging residents to install and test smoke alarms and noting national 2022 fire-response statistics cited during remarks. Legislator Adizio and local prevention-service representatives marked October as National Substance Use Prevention Month and discussed evidence-based prevention efforts and reducing stigma.

In public announcements, Legislator Adenizio reminded residents of a household hazardous waste drop-off on Saturday, Oct. 5, 8:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m., at Canopus Beach parking lot in Kent; preregistration and a county contact phone number were provided in the meeting record.

The proclamations were presented primarily as symbolic community recognition; speakers stressed prevention, resource referrals and community partnerships.
