Meridian Arts Commission updates commissioners on Initial Point Gallery programming

Lizzie Taylor, chair of the Initial Point Gallery subcommittee of the Meridian Arts Commission, gave an overview of gallery operations and the 2025 schedule on Nov. 13.
Taylor described the gallery (located on the third floor of Meridian City Hall), its public hours and the call-for-artists process (March call, May submissions). She explained a numeric scoring and subcommittee review that determine which artists are accepted, as well as the gallery’s content guidelines (family-friendly, nonpolitical and nonreligious) and contracting process handled by staff.
Taylor highlighted recurring partnerships and shows — the West Ada School District exhibit each May, the Treasure Valley Artists Alliance themed shows and the Bosco/Boise Open Studios Cooperative presentations — and encouraged commissioners to attend openings and serve as gallery ambassadors. She noted that sales are arranged directly between artist and buyer and that artists are sometimes encouraged (but not required) to donate 20% of proceeds to the commission.
Commissioners thanked Taylor for the work and asked to be added to the gallery mailing list for opening notices and promotional outreach.
