Library committee schedules holiday book drive sorting dates, discusses hospital partnership and movie night

Committee members reported progress on a holiday book drive and discussed logistics, partners and related community events.

A subcommittee contacted a hospital contact (Vince) about continuing last year’s partnership to receive donated books; the committee said if the hospital declines they will seek alternative recipients, including local clinics. The drive is scheduled to begin Nov. 25 (the Monday before Thanksgiving) and run through a 'Santa and cookies' event; the committee tentatively planned to deliver books either before Christmas or after New Year depending on recipients’ needs.

The committee set two sorting sessions so volunteers can box and count donations: an afternoon session on Dec. 10 and an evening session on Dec. 19, limited to three people per session so the group does not create a quorum. Members agreed to record the number of books in each box to track the donation quantity and to coordinate drop‑off logistics with staff.

Separately, members discussed reviving a 'tearjerker' movie night and proposed forming a subcommittee to plan timing, staffing and any related donation drives (for example, providing tissues as a ticket). Several members suggested coordinating the movie night with the new youth advisory board or other existing events rather than running a standalone kickoff.

No formal motions were required for the book drive logistics; the committee will confirm delivery details once the hospital contact responds and will revisit event planning in January.
