Following a closed executive session held under the Texas Open Meetings Act, the Spring Independent School District board reconvened in open session Oct. 3 and recorded two personnel actions.
Trustee Adams moved that the board approve the superintendent's recommendation to terminate the contract of Beatrice Rubio for failing to perform the contract without good cause and to authorize notification pursuant to Chapter 21 of the Texas Education Code; the motion was seconded by Trustee McDaniel and carried unanimously on a roll/voice vote.
Later, Trustee Newhouse moved that the board render a final order to nonrenew the contract of Kevin Skillman as presented in closed session and authorize the superintendent or designee to provide notice pursuant to Chapter 21 of the Texas Education Code; Trustee Jensen seconded the motion, which also passed unanimously.
The motions were made on the record after the board returned to open session at 8:36 p.m.; no additional detail about the personnel matters was provided in open session and board members noted votes were taken in accordance with the cited sections of state law. The board adjourned at 8:38 p.m.
The board's action was recorded in the meeting minutes; district staff will follow statutory notification procedures for employees and the State Board for Educator Certification as required.
