Cherokee Nation says it issued 10,976 emergency payments to citizens missing federal SNAP supplements

Treasurer Taylor told the Cherokee Nation Tribal Council that, “As of today, we have issued 10,976 payments to our citizens” to make up for supplemental nutrition payments the federal government did not issue. A council member asked whether about 19,000 applications had been received; Taylor said she could not confirm application totals and could only speak with certainty to the number of payments issued. Council members also praised the IT department for quickly putting the application on a portal referenced in the transcript as the "GodDoogie" portal; Treasury and staff described the portal and call center as central to the rapid rollout.
Taylor framed the payments as an immediate assistance measure for families in need while federal guidance continued to change. She offered the written financial report to council members and said she would answer further questions as needed.
