Macomb County recognizes Macomb Food Program; $15,000 in Meijer debit cards presented

The Macomb County Board of Commissioners presented recognition and a check (in the form of Meijer debit cards valued at $15,000) to the Macomb Food Program as the Board of Commissioners’ casual day recipient for October 2025.

Charlotte McIntyre, identified as one of the program’s founders, described the group’s history and volunteer structure and noted long-term commitments to local pantries and feeding homeless children. "I just would like to add, for many years, one of the issues was the fact that the Macomb Food Program was what I call a hidden secret in Macomb County," McIntyre said, adding that recent outreach has made the program more visible to residents in need.

Pam Wheeler, the organization’s treasurer, noted she had been affiliated with the Macomb Food Program for about 15 years and thanked commissioners for the support. The check distribution program will route $15,000 in Meijer debit cards to school principals for distribution to families identified as most in need.

The board also acknowledged longtime budget employee Dave Stitler, who was noted in public remarks as retiring on Dec. 5 after 36 years and eight months of service on county budgets.
