Dan Hennessy, speaking for Transportation and Public Works, said the multi‑year contract with Recology permits annual inflation‑adjusted increases and that the 3.7% adjustment equates to roughly $1 per month for most residential customers, typically billed quarterly as $3–$4. "This is allowed per their contracts," he said, and staff recommended the council approve the adjustment to avoid renegotiation before Jan. 1.
Councilmember Banuelos moved the approval and the council recorded the motion passed with six affirmative votes on the roll call. Staff noted the contract is in its last year and the city will rebid service next year.
